Starting a Revolution with the Pretty Green Smoothie

Are you ready to embark on a journey of flavours that will take your taste buds on an adventure?

We’ve loved serving our newest smoothie sensation this summer from Bean Loved – the Pretty Green.

Inspired by the iconic song by The Jam and crafted with a unique combo of ingredients, this smoothie is set to redefine your perception of taste, leaving you craving for more.

A fusion of fresh apple and kiwi, complemented with sweet and refreshing apple juice, the addition of earthy matcha encapsulates a myriad of flavours that harmoniously come together – who would have known?

At Bean Loved, people know us for our innovative and creative food and drinks, and owner, Wes Bond, developed this unique blend of sweet and fresh to add to the menu.

Wes said: “The idea of the Pretty Green smoothie came from a cheesecake I tried in a restaurant a few years ago with all the same ingredients, but with avocado, too. We tried to incorporate avocado into the smoothie but somehow the texture of it didn’t work and it took away from the refreshing taste we were after.

“We experimented with different flavours and adding fresh apple juice with the fruit and finely ground matcha, which are green tea leaves – it just seemed to work so much better – a perfect balance and a fresh taste.”

Matcha, celebrated for its complex taste, with grassy notes, sweet nuttiness and a hint of bitterness – really takes centre stage. To balance and compliment these flavours, the addition of natural sweetness was crucial, which a dynamic duo of apple and kiwi was also added to the mix.

Pretty Green Smoothie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 70g frozen Kiwi
  • 30g frozen Apple
  • 200ml of Apple juice
  • 2g Matcha

The following recipe serves one.

  1. Begin by preparing the matcha. Sift the matcha into a bowl to prevent clumps. This ensures that the tea disperses evenly into the liquid.
  1. Add a small amount of water to the sifted matcha and whisk. Make sure the water is around 70 to 80 degrees Celsius (158 to 176 degrees Fahrenheit) for optimal results. Unlike circular whisking as in baking, whisk vigorously from side to side or back and forth to create a foamy layer on top.
  1. In a blender, combine the frozen kiwi, frozen apple, whisked matcha, and apple juice.
  1. Blend the ingredients until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy. This typically takes about 1 minute. If needed, add a bit more liquid to facilitate blending. Pour the luscious Pretty Green smoothie into a glass and enjoy!
